French Mid-Century Walnut And Mahogany Campaign Desk
A 1960's French Mid-Century walnut and mahogany campaign desk. The perfect sized desk with a generous sized top. Yet it's not too large to overwhelm a room. The desk is also very open, making it seem smaller. Featuring a stunning walnut and mahogany top over 2 solid walnut saw horse legs. The beautifully fashioned legs are simple and yet elegant with brass dividers at the bottom. There are also 2 generous solid wood, dove tailed drawers under the desk top. The drawers slide easily. Each drawer has 2 elegant solid brass handles inset into the drawer front. The brass detail is repeated on the corners and the structure bar of the sawhorses. The brass accents make this Mid-Century Modern masterpiece truly elegant. The 2 sawhorse legs can be unscrewed from the desktop for moving and storage. The desk design dates back to the Napoleonic wars. Where it was used for French battlefield commanders as it could be easily dismantled and moved from campaign to campaign. Still providing ample room to lay out items or for work to be done. It was updated in the 60's by several French designers. As seen in the pictures the true beauty of this item is the sense of openness and compact size. A finished back allows you to place this in the centre of any room. Truly an impressive Mid-Century Modern desk; allowing you to see all your work and yet not overwhelm a room. It will fit seamlessly into any decor. Don’t miss your chance to own a rare Mid-Century item of quality! You can easily imagine this desk on the set of Mad Men.
